See previews of Channel 4's Stand Up For the Week

Wednesday, June 16 2010

Want to see the likes of Rich Hall and Patrick Kielty performing red-raw material a matter of hours before it goes on the telly? Well, two of London's finest comedy clubs are hosting regular warm-up nights for new Channel 4 comedy show Stand Up For the Week, which airs every Friday.

Firstly there is The Boat Show at Tattershall Castle (it's a boat on the Thames), which is already in LiF's good books for its consistently excellent line-ups, and clearly its pedigree has been recognised by Channel 4's spies. The second venue is Belushi's Bar in Borough, home to the award-winning small club Falling Down With Laughter.

Each week, Stand Up For the Week's regular guest comics will descend on The Boat Show [(Tuesday)](http://www.londonisfunny.com/listings/16549/The_Boat_Show_(Stand_Up_For_the_Week_warm-up) and Falling Down With Laughter [(Monday)](http://www.londonisfunny.com/listings/16937/Falling_Down_With_Laughter_(Stand_Up_For_the_Week_warm-up) to try out material before they film the show. They are: grizzly American and panel show veteran Rich Hall, the show's host Patrick Kielty (above), Edinburgh Newcomer Award nominee Jack Whitehall, former Tonightly co-host Andi Osho and highly rated young Scot Kevin Bridges. And each week you'll get to see some surprise special guests as well – pretty damn good for £3, no?

Stand Up for the Week is being billed as a more edgy and unpredictable version of your Mock the Weeks, reflecting the live circuit more than other panel shows. Whether the show lives up to its billing as "outrageously alternative" remains to be seen, but these are comics who know what they're doing and are most probably better on stage than on the telly, so get down there ...
