10 Questions with... Marc Hogan

Friday, August 21 2009

Some people gig for years before taking the Edinburgh Fringe. Marc Hogan wasn't even a stand-up 12 months ago.

What is your show, Actions Speak Louder Than Birds, about?
Can a corporate communications speaker (me) who can barely remember a joke become a comedian at the Edinburgh Festival comic in less than 11 months all to win a £1 bet!

Why did you decide to do a show about this?
Because I was reckless and foolish, and thought how hard can it be?.... It’s very, very hard.

If your show was a dog, what kind of dog would it be?
A border collie – energetic, clever, but becomes destructive if left on their own.

Complete this sentence: "If you like (blank) then you'll like my show"
"If you like koalas, then you’ll like my show."

Is the Edinburgh Comedy Award important to you?
I’m pretty sure as it’s my first time performing at Edinburgh that I haven’t got a chance in hell in winning that! I’m going for the experience.

What is the most frightening thing about the Edinburgh Festival?
The thought of performing to one person isn’t be great.

Which other acts would you recommend this year?
So many to choose, I really enjoyed Andrew Lawrence’s show last year, so I’d check him out.

Any tips on where to get the best pie/pint in Edinburgh?
The Cloisters Bar has a good range of beers and whiskey, not sure about pies though.

Sum up the festival in one word
Terrifying.

Marc Hogan: Actions Speak Louder Than Birds is on until August 30 (except Aug 24) at 7.15pm at the Zoo Southside. Click here for tickets
