Edinburgh Festival gallery – Gutted: A Revenger's Musical

Friday, August 20 2010

Crash bang wallop what a line-up. Gutted the Revenger's Musical unites some big comedy talent in a stage show written by Martin White and Danielle Ward, the duo behind cult London circuit hit Karaoke Circus.

Gutted is billed as "Glee meets Texas Chainsaw Massacre", and tells the story of poor Sorrow, whose parents were brutally murdered when she was seven, and then what happened when she caught up with the perpetrator years later ...

And here are some images of this starry cast in action, all taken by Alex Brenner.

Helen George plays heroine Sorrow, and lurking over her shoulder is a Penny Dreadful, Thom Tuck – that's him in the floor-length robe, he plays Kook. The other two Dreadfuls are in the shadows on the right, while centre back is a Sara Pascoe, who plays Jean.

Livid comic Michael Legge is the blind vicar in the background. And look, a Doc Brown! He plays the earnest Joe the Gardener.

Also involved with the show is Jim Bob from Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine, and director Chris George. Mssrs George, Ward and White were the same creative bunch came up with Psister Psycho for 2007's Edinburgh, which received a Chortle Award nomination for best full length show.

Aside George here is magnificent character comic Colin Hoult, who puts his versatility to the test in Gutted by playing an entire family, the Bewleys. Here he is playing Arthur Bewley, whom Sorrow intends to marry.

Hark, in the background, Danielle Ward, in the military jacket – she co-wrote the musical bits of this musical. There's Doc Brown again in the vest, Tuck, Hoult and in the fat suit is ... Jim Bob. Sheriff Fatman, anyone?

Gutted, A Revenger's Musical is on at 11.15pm at Assembly on George Street, click here for booking.
